About us

MedWAR made a brief appearance in Phoenix with a awesome and fun race in 2016. Put together by Zach Gibson and Leo Yontz during residency, it was initially planned to be an annual event but multiple complications including a terrible fire that devastated the Tonto Forest region stopped that from happening. We were incredibly excited to bring MedWAR back to AZ in 2020 in conjunction with both the Maricopa and Abrazo Emergency Medicine Residencies. Winter in Phoenix offers great racing conditions with cool crisp mornings and easily tolerable afternoons. This is the opposite of many places allowing for an excellent wilderness race without snow and frostbite.

Paramedaholic who became an emergency physician. Working at several locations throughout the Phoenix Valley and involved with EMS Medical Control and Education, and faculty with the new Abrazo EM residency in Goodyear, AZ.
